Spirit Bear Revival

I have been blessed with experiencing one of the last great wildernesses in the world, The Great Bear Rain Forest,  before it gets devastated by a planned tar sand, dirty oil pipeline from one of the  greatest environmental disasters in history, the Tar sands of Alberta to one of the most sensitive and pristine  coastlines in the world on the British Columbia west coast.  It is an amazing living example of the Kindred Spirits Project where the First Nations bands still live and work in harmony with the animals and environment despite all the outer challenges from corporations interested only in financially extracting as much as they can from the environment and leaving the devastating results to everyone else to deal with.  I stayed with the Klemtu First Nations band in their Spirit Bear Lodge and spent hours interviewing band members from 18 years old to their elders and their chief.  I was blessed that their 30 year old (youngest ever) Chief, Doug Neassloss was by bear guide for a few days.  We discussed the endless challenges from corporations to destroy their homeland as well as how their culture is so intimately intertwined with all the animals and the nature that they share their homes with.  The human animal bond is evident in every moment here.  Watch this to get just a tiny impression of being in this precious, endangered  great bear rainforest.  This great bear rainforest video is a clip from the National Geographic documentary on this endangered region.

Genetic Roulette Health Awareness

I would like to share some of the most important news that I have come across for disease prevention in both our animal friends and ourselves.  For most of my veterinary career I have been expounding the belief that we should feed our animal friends as naturally and organically as possible. I have seen so many diseases improve with simple dietary changes from allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, immune mediated diseases and cancer.  I have been well aware of doing my best to avoid genetically modified foods (GMO’s) in myself, my family and for my animal patients.  I just came across this new documentary, “Genetic Roulette” which is a free online movie that explains and summarizes all the potential hazardous effects of GMO’s on our food producing animals, our companion animals and humans.

Please watch this documentary, Genetic Roulette, and share it with as many people as you can.  We can all make this shift in awareness and improve the health of countless animals and people. I wish to keep this blog post brief, so you can spend your time watching this movie and spreading the word.  We can all help countless beings to quickly improve their health and happiness right now and that is what the Kindred Spirits Project is all about.  This is a key to preventive medicine for all beings.   Thank you for watching this and sharing it and spreading the word.  Let us create a healthier, happier world where compassion, health and happiness are more important than corporate greed and government corruption.

A Healthy Home for All Beings

A healthy home is an essential part of  preventive health care for us and our animal companions.  A friend and client suggested that I watch this video with Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Myron Wentz,  knowing that many of my foundational teachings and belief were encapsulated and visualized so well in this Health and Happiness summit.  I could not agree with him more after watching it.  These helpful suggestions are truly a foundation for our own preventive health care.  Certain cliche’s are cliche’s because they are so true.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is certainly one of these essential truths.  Many of the suggestions in this video pertain to our animal friends as well.   Though animals are not exposed to mercury in dental fillings, but they are exposed through thimerisol in vaccines.

As Dr. Wentz states regarding fluoride outgassing from frying pans, often times our animal friends are truly the canary in the cage.  This is quite evident more often than we might realize.  A relative of mine inquired about the sudden onset of asthma in her beloved cat.  Their veterinarian made the correct diagnosis and prescribed the correct medications.  However, too often, one does not question why the animal developed this condition suddenly in the first place.  My first question was what was different in the environment and had them review any changes in the house.  When I was visiting them and slept in the guestroom, I actually began to cough as I smelled something that was sickeningly sweet and toxic.  It was there new fabric fresheners that they put in the wash.  When discussing this with them, her husband actually said that he was coughing ever since that new freshener was used as well.  I suggested to stop using them and see how the cat and her husband were doing.  That solved the problem and they were able to stop using an inhaler medication and oral medication for the cat and her husband stopped coughing as well.  So often, we assume that many of these chemicals that permeate our environment are deemed healthy.  Often times, it is the exact opposite.  As my readers know, I am a huge proponent of the “Precautionary Principle”.  Science cannot possibly keep up with all the new chemicals we are exposed to.  Let us try to keep our environments as simple, back to basics and healthy as possible.  In the textbook I edited on Complementary and Alternative Medicine back in 1998, I had presented an environmental questionnaire developed by a human physician and one of the founders of the American College of Environmental Medicine  that I felt should be part of every veterinarians toolkit.  Instead of a life on hazardous pharmaceuticals, my relative’s cat is happy and free of asthma simply by figuring out the environmental cause of the asthma.  This is just one small example.

I was also thrilled to see that Dr. Wentz discussed electromagnetic pollution as I have written a number of blog posts about this ever increasing risk. I suggest that you read Dr. Wentz’s book and conduct an evaluation of your home and remove any toxins that can be hazardous to you and your animal companion’s health.  We will discuss more of the environmental triggers and potential health concerns in future blog posts.

May you and your kindred spirits live in a healthy, happy, toxin free environment.

Preventive Health: Electromagnetic Radiation Awareness for All Beings and Especially Our Kindred Bee’s

After a brief hiatus from blogging, I have returned questioning what the best purpose of my sharings with readers might be.  There are numerous places on the web where one can view heartwarming photo’s of animals that stimulate joy in ourselves.  There are wonderful websites bringing awareness to the alleviation of suffering in animals.  There are more and more photographic demonstrations of the bond between many species.  I feel like sharing news about animal health care that might not be readily available everywhere as well as insights into how new perspectives on the human animal bond can be of benefit to all beings.

With this focus in mind, there appears to be more and more research documenting the potentially detrimental effects of electromagnetic radiation (emr) on bee’s and actually on all beings.  This article on the detrimental effects of smart meters and their collectors in California.  It seems that in this day and age of prioritizing the hypothetical benefits of technology for corporate financial gain over the potential adverse health effects for all beings,  the damage to the health living beings is simply considered collateral damage.  The “precautionary principle” is not even considered.  There are very simple ways to avoid these hazardous health effects, yet corporations do not seem to care at all.  There is continued documentation of the hazardous effects of extended cell phone use as well, yet it too is ignored.  As electromagnetic radiation continues to permeate our environments, we do not look at the cumulative effects on our bodies.  More and more people are becoming electromagnetically sensitive.  Skeptics may cynically state that it is “all in their heads” and actually some of the hazardous emr effects are indeed impacting on the brain.  Animals do not lie though.  If one see’s the detrimental effects on bee’s and other animals, any argument regarding nocebo effect (negative placebo effect) goes out the door.

This article in Global Research offers an excellent brief review of studies.  This video lecture by prominent researchers offers an extended video explaining these effects further.

This article by Dr. Mercola also shares some interesting information regarding emr effects on health.

The growing amount of information should ideally prompt health authorities to acknowledge that these concerns are valid and override any corporate financial interests.   I have seen anecdotal cases of where emr has had significant adverse effects on dogs including increased incidence of seizures in a dog living under high power tension wires.  At the very least, perhaps this post can help make more animal lovers aware of the potential adverse health effects on their animal companions and themselves and then help spread that word and make a positive difference in this world.

As we choose to create a healthier, happier, more compassionate world, the regulation of emr radiation needs to be recognized as an important component to a healthy environment.

Trans-species Connections: Dog Saves Baby

I am so grateful to so many readers of my blog that send me further documentation of trans-species connections.  Apparently this video and news report have gone global and one wonderful reader shared it with me, as I do not watch TV.  It not only is further documentation of trans-species connections, but also of trans-species maternal behavior as I have discussed on each Mother’s Day for the past two years.  In addition, on you-tube next to this video are more video’s documenting trans-species maternal behavior.  I feel that the further collection of video’s documenting such behavior may eventually allow skeptics or scientists who demand double blind placebo controlled trials for evidence of behaviors and consciousness in other species, to acknowledge that consciousness and more evolved behaviors do indeed exist. I believe that the more evidence that we collect, the more  people will acknowledge this  trans-species field exists and just by becoming more aware of it, we can actually re-create a garden of eden on this planet, where compassion for all beings is the basis for compassionate society.

Canine Loyalty

This heart wrenching video  of Canine Loyalty of one dog standing by his dead companion who was hit by a car is another illustration of emotions and caring in dogs that goes so beyond what one had previously thought possible in their hearts and minds.  One can only wonder what this dog, grace, is thinking and feeling at this moment.

As I continue being a bit “time-challenged” seeing my beloved patients, I just wish to share this with you and continue building our video study documenting the heart and mind of our kindred spirits.

What are your thoughts and feelings when you watch this video on Canine Loyalty?

Kindred Assistance

Dolphin Connection

Dolphin Connection

I am grateful to readers of the kindred spirits project who are kind enough to share video’s and photo’s that continue to document how it is truly in our hearts to help one another.  Someone just sent me this heartwarming video of average beings confronted with a challenging situation and just instantly choosing to help  save these stranded dolphins.  Watch this video of people relaxing on a beach and then jumping into  Saving Dolphins.  Personally, each time these situations are documented of how we naturally want to help one another, it builds a solid foundation for demonstrating the highest good in all of us.

Thank you all for sharing these. The kindred spirits project is truly becoming a storehouse of documentation for who we truly are and who we can be!

Animal Morality: Compassion, Reconciliation & Empathy

Compassion

Compassion

A friend shared this educational video from TED talks on Animal Morality.  The TED talk summary states “Empathy, cooperation, fairness and reciprocity — caring about the well-being of others seems like a very human trait. But Frans de Waal shares some surprising videos of behavioral tests, on primates and other mammals, that show how many of these moral traits all of us share. In the midst of being “time-challenged” with seeing patients, I wanted to just quickly share this heart touching, hopeful, promising video of how humans can choose to act rather than some of the more violent, greedy behavior that seems to be in the news so frequently.

I am about to participate in a two day conference at Western Connecticut State University with Buddhist scholars, faculty and students on April 20 and 21, titled  ”Creativity and Compassion”.  It is part of a preparation for a visit from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.  Based on the integration of my personal journey and my professional journey, I will be part of a panel discussion titled “The Art of Compassion: bringing creativity and compassion to the ordinary tribulations of daily life.  It is heartening to see how compassion, empathy, creativity, are being recognized as essential behaviors as we choose to evolve to a more conscious world, all working together for the benefit of the common good.

Enjoy this educational video and recognize we all are able to make choices regarding our behaviors.  Let us choose ones that are moral and for the benefit of all beings!

Charter For Compassion: Vancouver

This past March, Vancouver pioneered a new approach to living together with their Vancouver Conference on 12 days of compassion based on the charter for compassion.  I am grateful to share with you this Video of Karen Armstrong’s keynote Lecture on the Charter for Compassion.  Karen Armstrong is a world renowned historian of religion, author, professor and winner of the TED Prize for her development of the Charter For Compassion.  This is sponsored partially by the Greater Vancouver Compassion Network (www.gvcn.ca)  as well as the Simon Fraser University  Center for Dialogue and the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education.  The Dalai Lama sometimes describes compassion as a generosity of heart.  This is all part of a new movement for a Network of Compassionate Cities.

The one thing I would add to this discussion of compassion is that they include compassion for all beings to include the animal kingdom.  When this happens, perhaps the oil companies will no longer use sound frequencies that have been found to kill dolphins, whales and other marine mammals, poachers will no longer kill elephants, rhinoceros, primates etc.  and factory farms will no longer treat animals like objects rather than sentient living beings.

I feel like this is part of synchrodestiny.  I was unaware of this network when I felt guided to begin my Kindred Spirits Project blog.  With my background as a veterinarian  committed to doing my best to help animals and their human caretakers, guided by my search for what is ultimate healing,  I had found myself on a subconscious quest which has led me to my own insights that compassion for all beings is one of the keys to heal the human condition and its disastrous impact on our environment.  I personally feel that by practicing unique mind body medicine techniques that I have developed for all animal lovers, animal hospitals, animal shelters, sanctuaries, zoo’s, aquariums, and any place where animals and people connect can actually become center for the awakening of compassion for all beings.

I will be sharing these techniques more in the future on this blog, in webinars, books, as well as various conferences for veterinarians and animal lovers.  Stay tuned.

I will keep this post short so that you can utilize your valuable time watching this special presentation at the beginning of the 12 days of compassion in Vancouver. Let’s expand on this develop a network of compassionate cities and compassionate animal care centers throughout the world!  What do you think?

Deeper Connections with Horses Through Love

Horse Connection

Loving Horse Connections

It is a joy to see the compassionate trainer, Jean Francois in this video demonstrating his loving horse connection.     Through his loving connection, he is able to train and enjoy such a deep, profound bond with his horses without all the traditional horse training tools.  As he says in this beautiful video, he is able to get these results through love and the inner silent connection.  Personally,  I find one of the keys to this deep profound connection is finding that profoundly quiet center in our hearts and cultivate and nourish that center and radiate out that loving connection from that center to all animals.  That is essentially what I feel Jean Francois is doing in this video. I actually think this is a possible example demonstrating my “trans-species field theory.   (more…)
